متن کاملLower Bounds on Volumes of Hyperbolic Haken 3-manifolds
In this paper, we find lower bounds for the volumes of certain hyperbolic Haken 3manifolds. The theory of Jorgensen and Thurston shows that the volumes of hyperbolic 3-manifolds are well-ordered, but no one has been able to find the smallest one. The best known result for closed manifolds is that the smallest closed hyperbolic 3-manifold has volume > 0.16668, proven by Gabai, Meyerhoff, and Thu...
متن کاملMathematische Annalen Coxeter groups and hyperbolic manifolds
The theory of Coxeter groups is used to provide an algebraic construction of finite volume hyperbolic manifolds. Combinatorial properties of finite images of these groups can be used to compute the volumes of the resulting manifolds. Three examples, in 4, 5 and 6-dimensions, are given, each of very small volume, and in one case of smallest possible volume.
متن کاملThe Volume Spectrum of Hyperbolic 4-Manifolds
In this paper, we construct examples of complete hyperbolic 4-manifolds of smallest volume by gluing together the sides of a regular ideal 24-cell in hyperbolic 4-space. We also show that the volume spectrum of hyperbolic 4-manifolds is the set of all positive integral multiples of 4 2 =3.
متن کاملCompact Hyperbolic 4-manifolds of Small Volume
We prove the existence of a compact non-orientable hyperbolic 4-manifold of volume 32π2/3 and a compact orientable hyperbolic 4-manifold of volume 64π2/3, obtainable from torsion-free subgroups of small index in the Coxeter group [5, 3, 3, 3]. At the time of writing these are the smallest volumes of any known compact hyperbolic 4-manifolds.
